[Voice Over in Korea] The Real First Step to Get a Job as a Voice Actor (Sending Samples)
Once you’ve found a company that handles multilingual voice-over projects (like Provoice), remember this: Sending a great sample is only half the battle. How you present it determines whether a Project Manager even opens your email. Here is the "insider etiquette" for applying to studios in Korea:
1. Stop Using "Voice Over" as Your Email Subject
You wouldn’t believe it, but over 90% of the emails we receive have the exact same subject line: “Voice over” or “Voice actor application.” These get lost in our inbox instantly.
- The Fix: Make your subject line searchable and specific. Include your Name, Nationality, and Gender.
- Be Specific: Since Provoice handles both translation and dubbing, clearly state which role you are applying for.
- Example: [Voice Actor Application] John Doe / USA / Male
2. KakaoTalk is King (Forget WhatsApp for a Moment)
While the rest of the world uses WhatsApp, Korea runs on KakaoTalk. If you want a fast response from a Korean PM, providing your Kakao ID is essential.
- Must-Haves: Include your KakaoTalk ID and your local Korean phone number directly in the body of the email. Don't make the manager dig through an attached CV to find how to call you.
3. Label Your Attachments Correctly
Don’t send files named “sample1.mp3” or “demo_final.mp4.” If we download 10 files from different people and they are all named “sample1,” we’ll never find yours again.
- The Fix: Rename every file with your info: “JohnDoe_USA_Male_DeepVoice.mp3”.
4. The 15-Minute Rule: Use Time Codes!
If you send a link to a 15-minute acting reel or a YouTube video, do not expect the manager to watch the whole thing just to find your 30-second appearance.
- The Fix: Always provide the exact time code where you appear (e.g., "My scene starts at 04:20"). Saving the manager the labor of hunting for your clip will immediately put you in their "good" books.
